The global recession has caused a lot of construction firms to gear down, if not come to a complete stop. For Supreme Group, however, there’s only one speed – full speed ahead. “We’re basically going full-bore at every opportunity that suits our expertise and our capability,” says Peter Timler, business development officer and vice president of engineering.

When the U.S. military needs safe, secure water vessels, Marinette Marine Corp. (MMC) is a company they seek, President Chuck Goddard says. Based in Marinette, Wis., the firm specializes in designing and manufacturing small, medium and complex ships for the Navy and Coast Guard. MMC started operations in 1942 to meet the country's demand for naval construction. Since then, it has evolved into a world-class shipbuilder with a portfolio of more than 1,500 vessels. “We are one of the big eight shipyards in the country,” Goddard says.

Groupe Robert Inc. is part of the top 10 of Canadian carriers. With its modern fleet with more than 4,500 pieces of equipment, the company also provides warehousing, distribution and logistics services. Groupe Robert is a private family owned company. It employs more than 2,600 employees and its sales are approximately $300 million. While its headquarters are Rougemont, Quebec, the company also has two operational centers (Montreal and Toronto) in addition to 16 terminals throughout Quebec. In recent years, Robert expanded its activities into specialized transportation.

Many people in business and elsewhere characterize themselves as strictly “left-brained” – analytical, logical and critical – or “right-brained” – creative and passionate. Others characterize the separation between a person’s intellectual and emotional sides as thinking with either your “heart” or your “head.”

The differences between the healthcare systems in Canada and the United States are significant, but not so great that the largest provider of nuclear cardiology services in North America cannot bridge them.

No matter what the size of a facility and the fleet of machinery, the work force remains the most important resource at Add Ink in Ontario. Now that customers want to rely on a single source for all their graphic packaging and displays, General Manager Bill Whyte believes the people factor is more important than ever.
