Toronto-based web design firm LinxSmart strives to excel in these same criteria for the sites it develops for its clients, but it goes further than making sure the sites are a strong online face for clients. Carolyn Clark Loder’s life is filled with a number of firsts. She’s been the youngest executive director of a California governmental agency as well as the first woman to hold the position, and she has been the first female president of two professional organizations.

As the president and CEO of her own company, one of Kathryn Freeland’s main goals is instilling trust in her employees. Since acquiring A-TEK Inc., the technology and scientific solutions company, in April 2010, Freeland has promoted an open-door policy where people are encouraged to share opinions in an entrepreneurial and growth environment. Much of her motivation for this open-door policy comes not only from her desire to see A-TEK thrive, but also because Freeland has been there before.

Arne’s Welding Ltd. is a company that firmly believes in the saying, “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” It was that philosophy that led founder Arnold Doucette to convert his original welding shop and repair center to manufacture trailers for heavy hauling applications. President Gerald “Butch” Bouchard explains how Doucette decided to make the switch: “After years of having people bring their trailers from other manufacturers for repairs, he said to a customer, ‘Why don’t you let me build you one that won’t break?’” 

When traveling turbulent and tumultuous waters, people prefer reliable vessels made with care. Trinity Yachts LLC strives to build such vessels, Vice President William S. Smith III says. Based in Gulfport, Miss., the firm manufactures superyachts that emphasize European quality, steel and aluminum construction. President and CEO John Dane founded the company in 1988 as a division of the Halter Marine Group.
