In the construction industry since 1970, Forino Co. President Tony Forino knows you have to stay flexible to be in the business for the long run. That flexibility has enabled his company to shift its game plan for residential homebuilding and take on additional municipal business to keep his employees busy.

“We’ve changed our game plan for our industry, where we do a lot of the work ourselves,” Forino points out.

Having served agencies such as the U.S. and Canadian Coast Guards, Taiwanese Civil Defense Command Center, British Army, Canada’s Department of National Defense and the U.S. Marine Corp, and countless police, fire and emergency response agencies, Daniels Electronics Ltd. understands the importance its products play in its clients’ operations. Using its strengths in technological innovation and manufacturing, Daniels is dedicated to producing radio systems that are reliable, can withstand extreme temperatures and have a high level of performance. These standards not only have provided Daniels with a long list of repeat customers, but also a leadership position in the market.

When Dennis Goll and his partners drew up the plans for what eventually would become West Wind Aviation on the back of a napkin, he knew customer service and safety would trump any disadvantage the fledgling regional airline would encounter versus established carriers.

It takes more than experienced personnel and detailed project management to keep Alaska’s Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) operating smoothly on a daily basis. Whether it involves coordinating shutdowns and reroutes during a decade-long capital improvement project, or maintaining taxiways and runways after a heavy Alaskan snowfall, the employees at ANC take pride in keeping this major international cargo hub operational no matter what obstacles industry regulations or Mother Nature put in its way.

Contrary to popular belief, the American Dream is far from dead. In fact, Talon/LPE is just one example of a company that began with a dream. Built from the ground up, it has grown into a highly valued provider of customized environmental consulting, engineering, drilling, construction and spill response services.

How do you make a good thing great? Spudnik Equipment Co. LLC has been the leading U.S. potato equipment manufacturer since brothers Carl and Lee Hobbs invented the potato scooper in 1958. Next came the potato piler, a tiered conveying system that stores the potatoes neatly. In the coming years, the company would add on a full-line of equipment for the potato farming industry. Machines for planting, harvesting, storing and transporting means that Spudnik now manufacturers 40 different equipment models, with each new model being an improvement on the old design or a new innovation.

Since it was formed in 2001, SPG Solar has built a national reputation as a solar energy company that can provide reliable, high-performance solar power systems. Much like the industry itself, SPG Solar is proving that it is ready for the mainstream as more commercial, industrial, utility and public energy users realize the potential benefits of solar power to their bottom line as well as the environment.

GSC Logistics boasts 23 years of success operating out of the Port of Oakland, Calif. However, the operation’s business skyrocketed at the turn of the century when two of its co-founders, Andy Garcia and Scott Taylor, fully embraced the dawn of the Internet Era at its inception. “We determined in 1999 that with the advent of the Internet, information was becoming more and more important,” Taylor says. “Public warehousing was on its downside, and we realized that the Internet was an important opportunity to get involved in. It was the turning point of our business.”
