When TH Hilson Co. President Lori Hilson Cioromski started with her father’s company 25 years ago in chemical industry sales, she admits she was young and the only woman in her training session. “I had to prove myself and come back with reliable answers to be a resource for my customers,” Cioromski concedes. “I worked as hard, or harder, than anyone else.”

To thrive for three generations as a family owned and operated company, Monroe Motor Products has had to keep its ears to the ground and its eyes on the road. As each decade brings on new technologies and new trends, Michael Gordon, president and CEO, says the company’s ability to react quickly when necessary, but still maintain a long-term view has been key to Monroe’s 94 years of success. And at the end of the day, Gordon says, as a needs-based seller, all the company’s decisions boil down to one question: Is it good for the customer?

"We have competition in every one of our categories, but there isn't one company that competes in every category we're in," he says. "We think this is a real strength as it allow us access to multiple product categories with all of the major retailers in the state."
