Stahl Specialty Co. enjoys a unique position in the market due to its ability and capacity to produce high-quality, precision-machined products from complex castings produced in-house with significant volumes. Sometimes even the best companies need a little help to survive. Larson Boats has been producing classic American boats for nearly a century, but the recession put a damper on consumer spending of items like the boats Larson manufactures. The company restructured, however, and found the financial resources it needed to push forward.

Every year since 2006, Inteplast Group Ltd. has been named one of the Top 10 Film and Sheet Manufacturers in North America by Plastics News, and last year Inteplast’s Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) operations received the Excellent Rating from the American Institute of Baking. This dedication to operational and product quality led Inteplast to become the largest integrated plastics manufacturer in North America, but this focus is not really intended for the pursuit of awards. Instead, the company strives to provide clients with a comprehensive offering that proves its commitment to excellence and integrity.

Based on the long-term success of Danko Emergency Equipment Co. and President and CEO Dan Kreikemeier, it is evident that the people who make the best firefighting equipment and apparatus in the industry are the firefighters themselves. A fireman since 1962, Kreikemeier has invented a number of clever devices to make firefighting easier and more efficient without a formal engineering degree. “My engineering degree comes from the school of hard knocks,” he quips. “When you do it wrong, you never do it that way again. One thing to remember – surround yourself with good, motivated employees.”

The purchase of Sussex IM Inc. at the end of 2009 will keep the company and its 110,000-square-foot plastics injection molding plant in Wisconsin despite overseas competition. “We closed the deal at the end of last year, and we are a new entity as of Jan. 1,” President Keith Everson announces. A management team consisting of Everson, CFO Dave Guagliardo and Phil Salzman, vice president of manufacturing, purchased the company from Rexam, which bought it in 1999 when Everson was its president.

As one of the fastest-growing companies in the bedding industry, Lady Americana President Kerry Tramel attributes much of the mattress manufacturer’s success to its willingness to stay ahead of the times and its capability to exceed the consumers’ expectations.

With lead times counted in years, completion of airliner interiors for heads of state is a select market. “It has been a fun ride,” concedes Rob Tomenendal, director of business development for Gore Design Completions Ltd.  “The majority of our business is from the Middle East and Central Asia. With the way the Middle East has been buying heavy iron, it’s been a good expansion for us to move into that area.”
