Thank you for publishing the story about our small business success and significance in “giving back.” The staff was very professional, polite, and respectful while gathering information. The final copy was therefore both accurate and written in an interesting way to share our story.

Correia Construction Co. Ltd. – a construction firm based in Devonshire Parish, Bermuda – has played an integral role in the development and maintenance of Bermuda’s key infrastructure for nearly 40 years. Joseph Madeiros Correia founded the company with his wife, Marjorie, and son, Dennis.
Today, with Dennis Correia at the helm as CEO, Correia Construction is a trusted source for the U.S. and Bermuda governments with regards to infrastructure stability. Correia consulted with the U.S. government on a regular basis in connection with the Swing Bridge and Long Bird Bridge regarding mechanical failures and upkeep. Other American clients include Exxon Mobile, the U.S. Navy and Air Force, and NASA.
All projects, however large or small, are completed with the same attention to detail.
Correia has consulted with the Bermuda government for the design/build of the Fast Ferry Docks and Terminals, Hamilton Terminal, Rockaway, Dockyard and St. Georges.
Correia also has consulted in Cuba, Florida, Turks & Caicos, the Bahamas, St. Kitts and Honduras with respect to breakwaters, commercial docks and marinas. “All projects, however large or small, are completed with the same attention to detail,” he maintains.
More recently, Correia consulted with the design/build of the mega cruise ship terminal Heritage Wharf in Dockyard, a massive project completed in 18 months. “The newest mega cruise ship dock we built in Bermuda would be one of our proudest accomplishments, built ahead of schedule by two months,” Correia says.
“We just finished a dock expansion in Roatan, Honduras, for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines,” he continues. “It was a design/build for the new largest ship in the world, and we finished on budget and 45 days ahead of schedule. We have a reputation for always coming in on budget and on time on all of our projects.”
To complete the Honduras project as efficiently and effectively as possible, Correia Construction incorporated Correia Honduras S.A. In addition, Correia Construction, led by Architectural Technician/Overall Projects Manager Michael Tatem, recently partnered with Bennett Hofford Construction and SAL Trading to incorporate a company in St. Kitts, C.H. Caribbean Construction Co. Ltd., to build homes and other projects on the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Another Correia Construction subsidiary, Corcon Ltd., provides electrical systems for residential design/build projects and major commercial installations. “The formation of this electrical company adds a further dimension to Correia Construction and our ability to serve clients,” Correia says.
These subsidiaries bring a full set of services to the company’s roster, allowing it to serve as a one-stop shop for its clientele. “Our strength is our ability to do any component of any job from the design to providing the furniture,” Correia says.
Correia Construction is capable of self-performing most of its work, but has developed solid relationships with subcontractors in the area. “We have subcontractors that have worked with us for many years,” Correia says. “We have long-term relationships with customers, as well. Because we have a very good reputation, the majority of our work is negotiated contracts rather than tenders.”
In addition, Correia says he is very proud of the fact that his daughter, Danielle, and son, Max, have taken a keen interest in the business. “The business is run today, with my wife, Jane, and with the interest that both our daughter and son are taking, we believe that Correia Construction will remain a force to be reckoned with for many years to come,” he declares.
